dumass ques #3

#1 Unread post by kar_the_terrible »

OK,
Yamaha xs400 makeshift fuel tank ques.

So I just put sealant in my gas tank, and will also be painting it on the outside, Since no gas is allowed iniside it for the next 5 days..... I need to have a makeshift gas tank to get the engine running and carbs tuned.
Now, I have a vacuum operated petcock (as TechBMW Pointed out earlier) so whats the best way to rig up say a sports bottle full of petrol to accomplish this??

Especially since one (main) pipe supplies fuel to the (LH) carb and another leads into the petcock from the vacuum nipple of the (RH) second carb. The (LH) first carb has a 'condom' like thingy covering the vacuum nipple. Do I just cover the vacuum pipe???

Thx in advance.

Yes, just cover the vacuum pipe.

Not sure if i'd use a sports bottle for the petrol, however. Petrol melts certain types of plastics over time and may deposit residues of this into the carbs ...

I don't know if you have anything like this, but an aluminum, glass, or steel bottle would be preferable.

That's what I use too. What could be better? Mine even has a shutoff valve! I just bungee it to the handlebar and I'm good to go.
Let me get this straight... it's one down and four up, right?
