We are all going to miss Warren K. Calkins, a wonderful person, great Safety Council motorcycle instructor and very smart rider.

Witnesses say he was braking so hard, there was smoke coming from his tires. Sorry to bring up this sad news. Everybody, just PLEASE be careful out there.

Another sad statistic. Stupid, inattentive cage drivers should be forced to pay in prison time and money for their idiotic actions. In the US, bike riders are almost considered fair game, with cagers seldom getting more than a slap on the wrist.

Such a sad story. I'm sure that his teachings helped many people avoid tragedy. Sometimes though, not even the best safety gear or the most defensive riding can ward off a fatal outcome. Thanks for the reminder, KarateChick.

A terrible tragedy...

One of the best side effects of mcing is that it has made me a 100% more attentive car driver...Everyone should have to get behind the handlebars at some point so they can get that perspective..

Can someone clarify what happend to me?

I don't understand, did the car make a U-turn onto a one way street on accident and thus the motorcyclist plowed (somehow) into the passenger door?

I don't see how he could hit the car if it were doing a U-turn unless he was following incredibly close/fast.

The rider was heading West down the hill and the vehicle that made a U-turn was sitting in the Eastbound lane, stopped because of an accident at the top of the hill. The car pulled out into the oncoming lane right in front of Mr. Calkins to make his turn and go west down the hill.

I hope so, the driver should be made to suffer the same way the family members have.
