The Avon AM51/52 doesn't come in a 150/60/17 size, comes in the slightly taller 150/70/17 size though. I'd reccommend the 130/70/17 size which is the OEM size for the GS. The 150/60 Pilot Sport is 149mm wide mounted on a 4" wheel or about 144 mm on our 3.5" wheel which is about 5.7". I have a 5.7 inch wide 140/80 Avon AM36 on the back of my 97 GS and it has barely enough clearance to the brake rod. The 150/70 AM52 is a few mm wider. The wider 150's usually require grinding a bit off of the brake torque rod for clearance. All 150s are not equal.

Sounds like the AM51/52 tires would be just right for your type of riding. It's a great commuter tire, it's intended purpose, and handles suprisingly well in the twisties. Good dry and wet traction and excellent tire life. Quite a bargain at it's present selling price. I've got 9k miles on mine now and there's a lot to go yet to the markers. It won't match the Pilot Sports in stickiness, but it's good and in my opinion all you need for the modestly powered GS500 if tire life is of any concern.

Check out gstwins.com board for all you need to know about the GS500, it's one of the better single model forums:

I've ordered tires online from:

http://www.americanmototire.com

http://www.chaparral-racing.com

http://swmototires.com/

Got the AM51/52 tires from American Moto Tires who had the best price on them, about $125 for the pair including shipping charges.

Just noticed your post, Moto Race has some left over Pilot Sports at a real bargain price right now, $49.95 for 110/7017 front and $69.95 for 150/60/17 rear. About $120 plus shipping for a pair.
