Ignition Switch

#1 Unread post by Iain »

Ok, not quite sure if this is trouble shooting, but its kinda technical, so I'll put it here.

I was working on my bike and when turning it on and off, remembered that there were 3 postions for the ignition, and I only knew what 2 were for. Now I'm not sure if I'm just a dumb teenager, but why is there 3 postions? The first is off, second is on, and third I can't seem to figure out. It might be another off postion, or might not be hooked up right, I have no idea, and my repair manuals say nothing about it. Any insite?

It is probably a 'lock' position. You need to have the front wheel turned to to one side while turning the key to the third position, and once it's locked, the frontwheel can't be straightened out. I've seen bikes that lock it full right and others lock it full left. You may have to try both sides.

some of the old ones had a park position on the switch that turned on the rear tail light only.
