three questions i have not found the answers to.

#1 Unread post by archanis »

these are the ones that i havnt had answers to searching around. i dont have a mentor nearby that is available for these sort of questions... just an old friend thats working all the time, so he's always tired when he gets home and doesnt want to answer all these.

how much does a msf course cost? i cant find any relation to an msf course and a price tag anywhere, be it information on how its free, or how much a course costs.

can a 250cc keep up with a 500cc on a 55mph stretch of road if the 500cc keeps the acceleration rate down? or is a 250 not good for highway riding at all? futer refrence. my mom is looking at a bike and i want to know if we would be able to go together.

can you use a backpack on a bike? legaly? safely? i cant seem to find saddle bags or the like for the bikes im looking at. (specificaly an sv 650 / sv 650 s,
or gs500f. these are not concrete. just a wishlist)

thanks in advance

The course generally costs money. Here (CS/B TX) it cost me $180. In some spots of canada it costs like 400+. Some states only charge like 7 bucks.

So it varies greatly.

For the 250/500 thing I think a 250 would start rattling at highway speeds? Don't quote me on that but I'm thinking that's what I've heard.

The backpack thing I have no idea. Need to know this as well. SV650 is on my wishlist too (right there at the top).

It varies from free on up to about $200.00. There's one free one around here that always books up for the whole year come spring, and another that costs $25.00 and also books up.

Up to and including 55mph and you'll be fine. It's on the freeway that problems arise, and not just from power issues. The 250 is so light it'll get tossed around by crosswinds and turbulence from semis.

Perfectly legal and perfectly safe. I have a backpack I use every Friday to haul my laptop and school books to DeVry. It's not an issue. The one I have even has a nice waist strap to keep it secure against my back so it can't slide from side to side when banking.

THANKS! thats realy helpfull. simple questions, but law books are vague on some aspects, and the other stuff can just be elusive. the thing about backpacks realy sets me at ease.

the MSF website has info on the courses in each state.

http://www.msf-usa.org

this is the organization that runs the rider courses

In wyoming it only costs $15

Having just taken the course I can say that it was possibly the best $15 I have ever spent. It would still be worth it at $100+

Seems totally fine, in my experience. I've put probably 5,000 miles in three different states on motorcycles with a backpack on.

Could always get a dirtbike, stud the tires, and learn to ride on the snow. :P My MSF course was $275, even then, it's worth it.

thats looking to be the best option. the only problem i would have with it is my moms constant nagging. even if i moved half way across the world, i swear!

'your not being safe riding in the snow like that.'

your not riding in the snow again are you? you know... i scrape more people off the sidewalk...' (shes a medic)

'i just dont feel safe with you riding like you are. your going to get yourself killed and if you had a cell phone i would call you while your riding to distract you, make you mess up and prove my point' (not realy, but its translated)
