Riding Test

#11 Unread post by TeeMan »

Since I didn't take the DMV test, I can't comment on that. But I did take the MSF course and was glad I did. The instructors actually said that the test for it was harder than the DMV test. That said, you got to practice the exercises many times over the weekend before the test. I may not be completely accurate but I think the tests were:

1) Uturn - Have to do two u-turns in a pretty small box, you enter the box and end up doing a figure 8 inside it.
2) Swerve - Get up to speed and then swerve right and then left again so that you're back on a parrallel course
3) Stop - Ride at about 20mph until you pass a cone, then so a quick stop, with both brakes, and shift to first before you put your foot down
4) 130 degree turn - Have to do a 90degree turn then speed up before you enter the tighter turn, slow down, down shift, then ride through the turn (out-in-out), then come to a full stop

In all cases you get points deducted for going too slow, except the u-turn since you'll fall over if you're going too slow. I had perfect scores on all tests until the last one when I entered the turn too slowly. :(

Either way, I'm glad I don't have to do the DMV test now. I'll take my certificate in next week and get my 'upgraded' license. :D

Here's an update: I passed! First try, no errors. I'm quite happy, and very glad I took the time to practice.

This what I had to do:
- Weave through the cones, go around the circle twice, come back out and weave through the cones. One time each way. This was on the "lollipop" course painted on the parking lot
- Keep both wheels in the straight line, go around the circle twice, and out the opposite line.
- Go around the parking lot, and when coming back, shift up to 2nd. Then downshift and stop near the instructor.

I nearly put my foot down on the second circle exercise, but recovered by trusting physics and giving it a little more gas. Thanks to those who helped me out, and also to those telling me to quit worrying about it and just do it.

Thanks Wiz, I took it in Ventura. I went to school at Ventura High, and live close by.

Small world.
