S indicator

hi guys, i'm kind of new to all this biking stuff so i have a question.
i just got a honda vtr f and i wanted to know what the S indicator means and what do you have to do if it lights up.

My guess is that it's a shift light indicator, but that would be a strange thing to have on a bike IMO. It could also be a service indicator; when the bike reaches a set amount of km's the light comes on to remind you that the bike needs a service check. This can usually only be reset by the shop mechanic.

humm...i don't think it's to shift because it's on as soon as i strart the bike.
what else can it be??
