89 katana WIW?
i had a post going on the other board about it...but it didnt really belong there....ok i have the chance to buy 89 katana 750 with 16,000 miles. for 1,000...the bike is in great shape but not runing..i think the carbs need to be cleaned and the gas changed?..we know the guy that owns it so if there is something really wrong with it we can bring it back to him....Do you guys think its worth a grand if i get it runing?

Maybe. If all it is is carbs then you should definitly buy it. But it could have other problems. Plus are you willing to do the work to get it started? Cost of shops are kinda huge. weigh all your possibilities before you act.

'94 Vulcan EN500 ....awesome first bike!
'87 CBR-F 600 Hurricane.... nice!

work
yeah im def. gunna do the work my self...i go to school for auto tech so`i got a pretty good idia of what im doing when it comes to motors...and my dads is a mechanic...the shops out here get 40-70 a hour lol...thanks for the input man....any one else?
its a big bike to start on for sure. i saw in the last post you said you had dirt exp which doesnt really mean much when going street. like saying 'i have 10 speed exp so i can handle an r1'. the katana is certainly not an over whelming bike but the 750 is no push over it can get away from you, and its fairly heavy.
that being said, im not sure id buy one that old and that doesnt start for a grand. i got an 03 kat600 for 3k in perfect shape and very low miles. look around for a better bike that at least runs.

Tell you what, bring the bike to a shop and get an estimate. At your expense of course. We can only help so much by your description of the problem. If you bring it to a shop and they tell you what it's going to take to get it running, you'll at least know before you buy. I believe this may be a wise way for you to go. And if he won't let you take it to a shop you'll also know he is hiding a more serious problem. I don't know the man, but i've been ripped off by so called friends. Be cautious is all I can say. Money has a funny way of ruining friendships.
Many say live to ride, I say ride is to live.
