1980 CX 500 won't start

#1 Unread post by hondaweedman »

I have a 1980 CX 500 that I needed to replace the sator on. Before I replaced the stator the bike would start with the rev jumping up to three grand and fall to idle. After I replaced the stator it started harder and it didn't fire up to the three grand like it used to. It would slowly work its way up to idling speed and then run. I really didn't notice any changes in power. But after letting it sit for a month I went to start it and it wouldn't. I even pulled it hoping that would work but it was being stubborn. I let it sit over night and tried to start it in the mornin and it fired up after about ten seconds. Once it started it ran good. After I took it for a ride and shut it off it took twice as long to start but seemed to run fine once started. It conitually took longer and longer to start until it wouldn't start anymore. That was after about four hard starts. I think it might be that the timing's off on it but I'm not sure. If you could let me know what you think might be the problem that would be great.

Thanks,

Kory

Sounds as though the timing is off.

I would definitely double check it.

I would also check and see if the coil wires are correct.

It could be firing opposite to how it should be.
