The Alice to Darwin Tour!

#1 Unread post by CentralOzzy »

Every now & then I get the opportunity to run my Alice Springs to Darwin tour & this year we ran one. Although it was a little late in the season everything went smoothly.

The lady client, Sandy was a repeat customer. I first met her some years ago on one of our 2 day tours & she told me then she would return for our special tour of the Top End of the Northern Territory & so she did.... Cool!

First up though was a half day tour of the local scenery from Alice. We visited the popular location of Standley Chasm in the West MacDonnell Ranges.

Then after a few days of them visiting Ayers Rock we where ready to ride to the Top End of the N.T. on what I call a 'Motorcycling Swimming Tour' in an outback paradice.

Gary loves Road Kings, so he was comfy on ours!

One of the first featurs we visited was the Devils Marbles located about 500 kilometres north of Alice Springs. They are granite rocks of volcanic origin which have been eroded over 1500 million years to produce the formation they are today.

Image
The Devils Marbles are explained in a Dream Time legend told by The Warumungu, the native Aboriginal people who say that they are fossilised eggs of the Rainbow Serpent. They must have had good drugs to come up with some of these stories.

Later that day we made it to our 1st overnight destination, Renner Springs for a cooling dip in the pool. Next day was bright & sunny & off we rode to Mataranka Thermal Pools. There are two main ones to visit, one a tourist attraction, the other a little know, but better spring near the edge of town.

After a night in Katherine, we sent them off on a tour of the Katherine Gorge! :D

After the Gorge tour we rode through windy roads to one of my favourite places, Edith Falls!

There are three main falls to visit & swim here!

Next was a ride to Pine Creek Pub where we have a tradition of gambling with our clients, last year our clients won $100 bucks, this year these clients won $110!

After a few cooling drinks we rode to Douglas Daly river & the 'Limestone Arches' where we stayed for the night.

This place is great to just chill out!

Now it was time to ride to one of the highlights of the tour....yes folks, the Awesome Litchfield National Park!

Yes Sir, I love this place!

Next place to ride to was the privately owned, Lake Bennet!

We had a great time here drinking heaps & out staying the other guests! Roudy motorcyclists, I don't know!

Then we rode to Darwin & dropped off Gary & Sandy to their Hotel & said good bye. What a fun tour & I hope to get to do one again soon. The best times to do it are April, May, June, July, Aughust & early September! For more info check out my site at www.centraloz.biz

Sweet trip, by the looks of it.

But how do you fit 'roo guards onto a bike? :D

Good question!

Just avoid riding at night pretty much does the trick....

But I do have these little stick on things on the front Fender called "Shoo Rooz"

They are supposed to emmit a sound to shoo off Roos, dunno if it really works, but so far I have not hit any!

That tour is all about riding to nice swimming locations, the scantily clad ladies are just something we M/C tour guides have to put up with....
