Hey does anyone know what I should torque my sparkplugs at? It's a 1982 yamaha maxim 400. And also does anyone know what they should be gapped at? I can just use the old sparks as a guide until I figure it out if no one knows.

Gaps might be printed somewhere on the bike itself. Under the seat of my '86 Yamaha Radian, it has that information, I believe.

As for spark plug torque, put a tiny bit of anti-seize on the threads and tighten them down via the instructions on the plug packaging. It varies by the sealing washer used, but it's usually 1/4 to 1/2 turn after it's snug (I usually say snug is about 1/8 turn past handtight).

thanks a lot, that package actually says its a full 1/2 turn given the washers it came with. I look around for the gap. I put them in and it fired right up! Man I was so pumped, after 9 years it purrs!!!!!

After a while (10-15 minutes) it seems to get bogged down and just dies. When I pulled the plugs they were BLACK. I am guessing the float needs to be adjusted and I need to lean out the carb. Unfortunately I have no idea how to do either of those. I'll look around here though, I'm sure there is some information somewhere.

I really need to get one now that it's put back together. I got the tank in the mail last week and couldn't wait so I put it all back together. To see if it would run. Now I need to take some pictures.

The tank looks worse on the outside than the one I had but no rust on the inside. I may be repainting the tank this winter if I can get the balls to do it.
