Report back, group ride.

There are just some times when you get it all wrong. Where did I go wrong? Double guessing before I started, DUH. :frusty:

We all stand ready for our ride captain to tell us whats what and it gets around to who wants to ride with the slow or fast group. 22 bikes and six come to stand with me. 5 I already know from the Sunday runs and one new guy. I lay out the route and the regroups, we discuss riding speeds on what sections of road and maintaining distance in the twisties. I asked the new guy if he would mind staying at No 2 behind me. No problem, off we go. Within the first 50 kms I can see the new guy is very competant and knows what he is doing. First regroup at the 100 kms mark and we stop for a quick leg stretch. I tell they new guy he can ride where he likes. This now becomes one of the best parts of the run, I am totally relaxed. It is fantastic to ride with this group, they slot into where they are comfortable, space out when we get the open road and slow down and close up when we get to the route turns. We now face 200 kms of open road and we agreed on a top speed up front of 160kmh which means the guys at the back were running 200. There is nothing better than running with experianced guy's and I have worried for nothing. At each stop we took a few minutes to discuss the next part of the ride, as non of the guys had been on such a long run before. We had a great time on this run, more of which I will post on the ride forums.

Just a note on how this club works. When we leave the next day, every one again is given options as to how to get back. Some even chose the option of finding the closest highway. That group of 22 just splintered. Except for the guys that chose to ride with me. The same guy's. They asked me not to rush back and can we go a different route so they can see more of the area. Damn I got all warm and mushy. I hate that.

Good for you . All the worry for nothing tho . Chalk it up as one more learning experience . Certainly sounds like you had a great ride .

Thanks Wizz, Certainly did. Its weird, I stressed on this one and it turned out to be one of the best. I have an old camara,(uses film, not like some forum members  ) so I have to finish the film and take it to the shop so they can put it on CD for me. Not many pics but I hope they will be good enough for me to post.

Congrats on a great ride and a relaxing day! I'm glad everyone found their place and didn't require any real babysitting. That is as it should be!

Here's to many more successful group rides! :righton:

Hey, glad it went well.

At least you were mentally prepared for some 'babysitting' - nice that you didn't even need it.

We also have a digital camera and I still prefer my old 35mm . That is what I use exclusively . Matter of fact I am reworking some pics for our club web site from a run earlier this month .
