Here comes the sun...
Here comes the sun...
Do dee doo doo...
I was driving back to college today in my cage thinking how great it'll be once I can buy my own bike and make that same run (cool air, long stretches of road, no cops, good mix between highway, city, and backroads..3 and a half hours).
And as I was driving I noticed the sun was in my eyes, habitually lowered my visor thing (it folds up, usually has a mirror in it, no idea what the proper name is.) to block the sun.
A while down the road I was adjusting it to account for the sun being an arse and moving (actually I just turned but I'll blame it on the sun) and then I realized...
How do you prevent the sun from blinding you when riding in late evening? Are the visors dimmed? Are there inserts you can use? Or do you just have to go blind? Or not ride to the west? (or east dependent on time of day).

Some helmets also come witha slide-down sun visor like a fighter pilot.

I don't think tinted faceshields help all that much when your heading directly into the sun. I have one on my helmet and it's good for general glare reduction, but it's no match for direct sunlight. Addtionally, riding into the sun will illuminate every little scratch and imperfection on your faceshield. It can actually be worse than no visor at all.
When I have to go directly into the sun, I lift my (tinted) faceshield, then duck my head down until the sun is blocked byt the part of the helmet that is just above my eyes. Generally using the top part of the face opening like you'd use a sun visor in a car.

I do this... or use my tinted shield, I find if I squint a little it's good enough, and I only have a medium tint. I'd be tempted to get a dark tint, but I use the same helmet on night rides soooo medium it stays.bennettoid wrote:I don't know about anybody else, but I just ride with my eyes closed.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
