Not to say he hasn't talked with the police plenty....but that particular subject never seems to come up.
True, ussually I say things like, "gee, that's a lotta donuts you got there, Officer" and "excuse me Officer, but you dropped your gun when you when you were reaching for that hot-dog" and "no I don't smell anything like that, Sir..... look out behind you! Vroooom!"
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

sorry to dig up an old thread, but I am new and as such was reading through old threads to try to get as much info crammed in my brain as possible...with that said... you can make a MIRT that changes lights on command, they are illegal in some states though. With that said, about $35 and an hour you can never have this problem again.

just saw update on that site, it is now illegal everywhere, federally, to use this...damn all those wasted $$ and hours!

That's a definite fine here if you get caught. Leaving your vehicle(car, bike, jet-ski, whatever) to push the pedestrian walk button is a definite no-no.

I've heard it is o.k. to proceed after a 'reasonable' amount of time, but have never talked to any cops or law-types to confirm this.
I dunno right turns at a red light are legal so long as you come to a complete stop, and three rights = a left. Bikes are meant to go the long way ;)
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I dunno if I buy into that magnet thing, sickchilly. Let me know if you find a real test of it (or if you've done one).
In the meantime, here's a Washington Post article from 96 that gives way more info than I needed to know about how these things work:

Somebody smarter than me needs to figure out a solution to this problem. I'm sick of getting stuck at these things.

I've heard the magnet doesn't work - tested in Motorcyclist or CycleWorld. If you have one of these I'd like to suggest a test for our own un-scientific test - find a problem light and try it two times. Once with and once without the magnet.

Anyway, I do the right on red thing where legal and turn around. I'd rather take longer than deal with explaining what I did to a judge.

There is one intersection in my home town that I have the same problem with, especially in the left turn lane. I will try the starter trick next time, I can see where the magnetic field from the starter might trigger the light. How does the law look at a light that does not turn green?
