What's the best way to lift a bike?

Ok

I know this is horrible, but I just got the best laugh of my day.

A guy in a halloween costume on a standard motorcycle (couldn't tell the type from 7 floors up) got his cape caught in the backwheel causing him to dump his bike in an intersection.

He blocked traffic for a while trying to get the bike back on it's feet and only managed to get that done with the help of two pedestrians.

Is there a good way to lift a bike?

Ummm....just bend over and pick it back up. You don't have to pick the whole bike clean off the ground, just upright it.

Your first instinct is to turn the tire away from the ground and haul it straight up, this can be done with a small bike, or a medium sized one if you're strong. However it is easier to put your back and squat down. Grab the bar that is touching the ground with one hand and grab the back fender with the other. Keep your back straight and lift straight up. The tire will help to lever it up.

I've seen a full dress goldwing picked up like that without any assistance from someone. He was bright red when he was done though, dropping a bike at a bike show that doesn't belong to you and having several hundred people standing around must have been embarrasing. I felt sorry for the dealer.

I was taught how to do this, make sure the front wheel is pointing skywards and haul on the handle bar nearest the ground. make sure the bike is not running and it is neutral. Don't laugh

this has been done and the guy eneded up running down the street trying to jump back on. Actually it was funny

Stand beside the bike, turn the bars toward you. Turn your back to the bike and grab the handlebar and the rear frame rail or grab handle.

So if the bike fell on its right, I have my left hand on the handlebar, my right hand on the grab bar, and my butt next to the seat. Then you just squat it up using only your legs.

Pretty much exactly as the link said to do it.
