Riding without a license

#1 Unread post by Vit0r »

If all goes well I'll be picking up my first bike tomorrow. Problem is, I don't have my moto-license yet, but I do have a moto-permit and a driver's license, if that even helps at all.

Let's say a cop pulls me over for a broken tailight or something and finds out I don't have my moto-license, should I expect jail-time and a driver's license revoke?

That's what the permit is for. To allow you to ride with certain restrictions while you learn.

Depends on the Cop.

Could be a warning, could be a ticket and impound of the bike.

The permit, if you are riding withing the permit guidelines, will keep you from a no license ticket.

But if you are say, speeding, the speeding ticket on the permit might prevent you from gettng a license for a year.

I used to live in NY. I was stopped without a license, no registration. Was trying the "new" bike around the block. Got no registration, failure to comply with an officer. Paid the $, registered the next day (it was a Sunday). The Cop was local and gave me a break. Could of took the bike. This was the 69th Precinct in Canarsie.

mydly is your keyboard broken or something?

Anyways, you probably shouldn't even be worried. A lot of cops don't even pull you over unless A) they want to be "Donut Holes" or B) they see something wrong with your bike. Otherwise they bother the cagers more than the bikes.

Or in my experience, they do.

Just make sure everything is in working condition on the bike, don't drive like a maniac, and you'll be fine.

Worse, bad typing, but the keyboard is cordless, I think it is time for new batteries.

Probably should proof read a little too....lol

Ah. That post just had a bunch of weird letters in places that they seemed better off not being.

Just wondered if the keyboard was broken, had one short out on me once (or something like that) and everytime I hit any of the middle rows of keys a 't' would follow shortly after.

So the word 'hola' would come out as 'htoltat".

Fun times.

I rode without a license for 22 years. Here in Alberta, the fine was $25 until last year. Now it's a couple of grand. So last month I wrote and rode my test, I'm all legal now.

I have never been stopped on a bike, so I never had an issue with it, but it is not a good idea, so don't do what I did. That applies to most anything I do, BTW.

Even without a license, I was still able to get registration and insurance here. Makes you wonder how much they cared about such legalities, as long as the registration and insurance companies got thier money, they didn't care.

Get your license as soon as you can. Don't be me.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:
