Skipping gears.
Skipping gears.
I guess it would be a good thing to know more about the mechanics of a motorcycle, but I don't. On the highways around here most people go 65-75mph. I found it's quicker to turn onto the highway from a stop by shifting directly from first to third, without letting the clutch out between 2nd and 3rd. The rpm goes to about 5k in first, then I clutch and shift twice, and it drops to around 3k in third and has good power to accelerate. Is this is a bad thing to do as far as damaging the mysterious internal workings? If I let the clutch out between 2nd and 3rd, and go through the gears normally, it takes longer to get up to speed and the engine is around 5k the whole time.
Re: Skipping gears.
i would go through the gears. not sure what kind of bike you have, but you should be able to get better power using the gears rather than skipping over 2nd. even if its a real quick shift just to keep the rpms up there i would think is better(power wise). but again not an expert. but from my exp i use all gears ehhe

sounds like a low rpm for power to me consider it prolly idles around 1k doesnt leave much room for a power curve if its under 3k.. but then again mine doesnt really start to pull untill 6k haha

It's a 1986 honda magna 700. Until it's in overdrive, the power zone or whatever it's called is just before 3k and drops off just after 5k. I don't know where it drops off in 6th gear. Haven't gone that fast yet.
