okay im looking into buying one thats been modified for drag raceing, its still street leagal tho, its been bored out to 1390 cc's, has a wide back tire, and drag pipes, other than that everything has been left the same.
the guy wants $500.00 for it and im wondering on a bike that old what should i look for and is that a fair price

Some things to be aware of.....
You can't bore a stock GSXR block out to 1390cc. 1340 is absolute max, and reliability goes to Shiite with higher compression. So it probably has an aftermarket block (of which there are several). And that's no bad thing, but chances are that it also has higher compression pistons in it, so pump gas might not be an option without changing the pistons.
Whatever carbs are on it are probably not stock (again, not a bad thing, the stockers don't flow enough to supply those big jugs properly). Whatever is on there was most likely chosen to make the most power at high RPM's.
The bottom end of those motors is pretty strong stock, so that should be in decent shape.
The stock clutch wouldn't take much dragstrip use with that motor in front of it, so it is probably modified heavily or a different design all together. But you may want to check it out, it will need some work I bet, and that could be relatively cheap or very expensive, depending on what's in there and what's needed.
So this motor won't be very streetable without some major re-modifications. But it is certainly not impossible.....

Unless you are looking for a project to tinker on, steer clear.
Now, on the other hand if you want something that may take some time and money to get going properly, go for it
500 seems very little for such a heavily modified bike. If it seems like it runs and shifts ok, you probably are getting a deal. If not ... it's up to you on what you want to do w/ this bike.

i figure i will probably have to work on the bike but thats no problem, im in a motorcycle mechaincs class, and i get a 15% discount on all parts, and i dont have to pay labor to get it worked on. so even if i does noeed some work i can get anything that isnt to major repaird for fairly cheap. but i was told that the bike doesnt need any major repairs, im still kind of scared to go and buy it tho because with my luck it will stop running within 2 days of me buying it
