Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I'm pretty sure if it's not at a crosswalk, and not in a parking lot, pedestrians DON'T have right of way. You can't just walk across a highway and expect people to stop for you. Well you can, but you won't live long.

Anyway sorry to hear about your wreck. People suck.

Does this mean pedestrians can just randomly stroll across busy thoroughfares, without regard to traffic signals or traffic? That doesn't sound right to me.

Here in Phoenix, people are killed on a fairly regular basis when they dart out in front of cars while attempting to cross one of the busy six to eight lane streets. None of the drivers are ever cited. Realistically, what can you do if someone just jumps in front of your moving vehicle. It's also against the law in most places (in the US) for pedestrians to pull those kinds of stunts. We call it "jaywalking".

In Edmonton at least you need to demonstrate clearly an intent to corss. Which means standing at a crosswalk with both feet pointing towares th the e road and pointing across the street with one hand before you have the right of way.

the lawyers make these laws--we got them standing on street corners here just waiting for some doofus to get his arse knocked off so they can sue for the grieving family.

Im british, and in the UK, you would get run over and killed. and you wouldnt get in to trouble, but down town calgary is the worst, people think they can cross the road reading a book, without a crosswalk. I wouldnt call it a jaywalking its more like deadman walking, if it ever happens again to me, Im gonna MAD MAX there arse take um out and not worry about the consequences, Im psst and Im fed up with the pain now, Im hurting slowly more and more, becouse I put my self at risk for some arse whole drunk. who couldnt be bothered to walk half a block to a crosswalk.

its 7am on sunday, I know it could of been alot worse, but ive been up most of the night, and im pssst
