600 mile initial maintenance - how much should this cost?

I posted this same question in the new bikers forum, not sure which spot would be best so I'll repost it here. I am new to the motorcycle world. I just completed my MSF course last month and bought a Virago 250. I hit my 600 mile point and asked my dealer how much the maintenance would cost. I was told $250???!!! Is it just me or does this sound steep? Please let me know if this price is right or is this a bad deal. Thanks again.

Major tunes run about $250.00 and up. Change the oil, Sync the Carbs, adjust the valves and check cables and adjustments as needed. You could wait till you reach 1200 miles for this. A good place to get this stuff done close to you would be

They do a lot of Virago's and probably the best shop in the world for the Yamaha XS1100 and XJ1100.
