Legal Limit is....?

Hey everyone, just wondering what the legal speed limit is where-ever you are, sorta interested as to what it is in different countries (and states?). In New South Wales, Australia, the legal limit is just under 70 miles per hour on highways and freeways, and quite a lot of other places are 50 to 60 miles per hour. Around town though its usually 30. I think its pretty much the same in every state, except for the Northern Territory, where i think its unrestricted on a lot of highways

On the vast majority of highways in Oregon it's 55mph. However, the usual flow is 60-70, and I was told by a traffic officer they don't ticket as long as you're going under 65.

It's best to save excessive speeding for the back roads where the only limit signs are the "recommended" speeds for corners. Of course, these are the recommended speeds for cars... add on 20-30mph for bikes .

45-55mph surface roads, 55-65 freeways, the furthor you get from the city's you can see 75mph freeways. usual flow of traffic is very vast, one car will be doing 100+ weaving through cars another will be doing 5 under the limit in the fast lane, an suv with a soccer mom on the phone not looking doing whatever speed at the moment drifting all over, makes for some scary freeway riding/driving. i hate them here

the road i live on is 35mph and i see so many cops daily on it pulling people over i do the speed limit(then again i always do, cant afford insurance to double

Here in Nevada, you have 65 freeway/highway through town, 75 on the rural freeway/highways. and your standard 25 residential, and various speeds throughout town.

California is 25 MPH in residential areas, 35 to 45 on city streets, 55 on two-lane highways and anywhere from 60 to 70 on freeways, depending on traffic density.

It's not uncommon in some areas though for the whole crowd to go far beyond the speed limit. I remember riding my 80 XS 1100 on Highway 101 between Paso Robles and San Louis Obispo about 7 years ago, just cruising along with the flow of traffic with my wife on the back, on the way to spend the weekend with some friends. I glanced at the speedo, and we were doing a tick over 90. All of us.

Haha, nice. I remember being on the back of my dads BMW R1100S [red of course] and we were going down this straight that was totally deserted...so naturally he put on some speed. i had a look to the side of his head, and saw we were doing 100 miles an hour lol, next thing i see is this recommended speed sign for a corner. the speed it said was 45 and i think we hit it at 90. BEST fun i've ever had almost...but wouldn't be too game to do it myself

Same here in North Carolina. If you're only running the speed limit on the freeways, they're gonna need a mop and bucket to pick up what's left of you!

Here in Maine the Interstate is 65MPH, most back roads are 50 and going through towns are usually 25.

UK speed limit on Motorways and Dual Carriageways is 70mph, though the traffic often travels at about 80-85. The police are unlikely to prosecute for speeds up to 80mph.

On other roads the unrestricted speed is 60, but 40 and 50 limits are (increasingly) common. 30 is normal in town and in residential areas where houses directly border the roads.

Yeah here in UK, we are running out of roads....that dont have speed cameras..and its P*****g us off. The worst one we came across today was halfway along a 10mile dual carriageway was a speed camera, it wasnt a built up area and there were no rds branching off. It was there to try and get more money out of you. Luckily we saw cars braking, so we had plenty of chance to slow down, but motorist were braking hard cause there was a bush obstructing the view of the camera, now I'm sure this camera must have caused a few accidents!
