Where to buy a bike
I've been looking to upgrade from my yamaha 400 xs (82) to my dream bike. A lime green ninja. I'm looking at something in the 600-1000 engine range. I just don't know a good place to buy a bike. I only have 3,000, and would like to get a 2000 or newer. Any suggestions on a good place to find a decent used Ninja? I've tried ebay, but I can't quite seem to find the right one. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Look for a bargain finder or something similar, there's usually a section for bikes.
Judging by prices up here, you're not going to get the type of bike you're looking for at your price-point in good condition though. Might need to save for a while.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Okay, so stupid choice for a first bike. Just a plain old bad idea.
Shipping will be a lot more then your willing to pay.
And at the price it's probably either a really old bike, or really beat up.

Good luck in that price range. I've kinda off handedly been looking for a ninja 250 and they are between $2000 and $3000 for newer ones. For the size your looking for your probably talking an 8 or 10 year old bike. unless you get lucky or find something crashed you can fix.

A fellow I work with just bought a Gold Wing off E-bay. The shipping by Allied Van Lines, from Iowa to Virginia was right at $700.00.

Rule #1--NEVER buy a used bike sight unseen. It is an invitation to misery. This is especially true if the bike in question is a sportbike.
I did it, have regretted it, it cost $732 via Allied Vanlines to ship from Baltimore to the Pacific coast 3 years ago.

Double especially if it comes with 'extra' furred bodywork...... Ex-stuntbikes are not a dependable base to start from. I'd bet that bike has been beat to within an inch of it's life(or death).oldnslo wrote:Rule #1--NEVER buy a used bike sight unseen. It is an invitation to misery. Its not his first bike guys. he upgrading from an XS400.
a 2000+ sportbike in the 600cc+ range is not gonna sell for 3K unless its beat to hell or an ex-track bike (also beat to hell).
for 3K you can still get a 600cc sportbike but your looking at probably a 96-99 not a 2000+. If you can find a slightly older sportbike that is still in good shape you should be able to get a good deal on it as anything made before 2000 in the sportbike world is not in as much demand as a 2000+ bike, but will still be fast and fun.
