The best ride I took was last September in the Smoky Mts. 8 of us rode Tail of the Dragon (Deals Gap), and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I still dream about that ride, especially that winter is now arrived here in Michigan.

I thought long and hard about this one because all my rides are good, but if there is one that will stick in my mind forever it will be the first ride on the K1200S. The Goose and I had just come back from a weekend in God's country and we went to the AMID show. This where we get to ride the manufacturers bikes around a race track. 2005 was based at the famous KYALAMI track. BMW were allowing the K1200S rides by invitation only but the sales guy's know me, and more probably The Goose, well and gave us tickets.

Let me tell you how this works. Three to four guy's at a time with maybe 30 second intervals let onto the track with a marshal in front. Golden rule do not overtake the marshall or you are banned from riding. The marshal in front of me is a BMW franchise salesman who often asks me to ride TEC on his Sunday rides. Off we go, nice and easy first lap to get used to the bike, remember I have the Goose on the back as well. Second lap and the marshal indicates for me to pull over to the pit and wait. He continues on with the other guy's for another two laps, tells them to pit and then indicates for me to follow him again. He gives the sign to follow and we are off. He is riding a new 1200GS and gives it all it's got and I stick to him like crap on a babies blanket. The bike is awsome and Kayalami has to be ridden to know what I am talkin about, it is a world class racing circut. This got my blood boiling like no other bike has before and I am so impressed. to cut a long story short, we did this three time throughout the day and also rode loads of other bikes like the Triumph ST 1050, Busa and CBR but there was nothing to touch the BM for us. Hence we have one.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R
