man I'm confused... buell... triumph

Thruxton is a waste of money. Buy a REAL 60's 70's triumph for 1/3 the money, spend 3 grand or so fixing it up and you have something authentic that still comes in cheaper than the thruxton.

Course, you don't want to do that, so i'd have to recommend the Duc as well.

There's no reason why you should fear the 620, it's pretty mild ... Matter of fact, there's no reason why you shouldn't get the 748/749, or strike a decent compromise between wild and mild with the s2r 1000.

oh man... now you're just messing with my head. The reason I can't get a 749 is because they're hideous. But a 748 mono... too expensive? too hard to find? can't finance?

damn it! there's one right near me on ebay... it's a 2000. You're putting bad ideas in my head. If I got that I would just want to mount it in the middle of my living room

... it's even the color I was planning on painting it, has the pillion recovered... and has the mono subframe with it. Wow this guy's so on my wavelength it's creepy. Just went down to the bank though and with an A+ credit score but only one card with a lousy limit (because I hardly ever use it) they wont give me any money.

My loans at the dealer (for either bike) were approved though. I wonder if I can get them to track down a 748.

Why? Better performance, braking, handling and warranty than the Meriden Triumphs ever had... what's wrong with the Hinckley version?

umm... did you mean that litteraly or are you saying that the monster is more comfortable than the Thruxton? I've read a number of reviews that state the monster saddle is good for about 20 miles at the most... now I'm pretty tolerant and think that my CL360 with a CF seat and half an inch of padding is plenty comfortable so I probably wont take issue with it, that's just what I've read.

Actually, my choice in words couldn't have been worse....

My wife has the S2R Monster and I find it extremely comfortable to ride. There is a difference in seat padding between the 620 and 800 Monsters however. The 620 seat foam is extra thin to appeal to the short (women) rider crowd. The 800 seat is much more comfy...

Strictly from a financial standpoint (A harley owner should understand this )

a well done meridian triumph will appreciate over time (After a smaller initial investment) while the Hinckley machine will depreciate.

And Mysta seems the type of guy who would appreciate the real deal over the newer ones, so i think it goes beyond financial anyway.

PS, Mysta, a big drawback on the 748 is lack of comfort ... fyi ymmv ...

yeah, I know. That's what's still got me thinking about the monster even after you've put all these nasty ideas in my head

It would have to be really bad though for me to second guess the very bike that first sparked my interest in motorcycles (I didn't know anything about them at the time but, that was back when it was the 916)

monsters can look pretty good too though:

ohh... the urge to modify is killing me. Obviously I'd still feel the need to tweak a monster... but I don't think I could touch a 748 if it was already pristine stock.

Think I'd hate myself if I tried to ride a 748 to Daytona?

Ah, you're one of those "If it don't smoke and it don't leak oil, then it ain't British" types are you?

Having owned both Meridan and Hinckley Triumphs, my money would still be on a Thruxton (despite my two bad experiences with the "new" company). Problem is I can't, um, fit on one anymore.
