It never occured to me to not just back the bike out. What's the big deal?

Well there is that too now that I think of it. I've never had one.

R6s weigh next to nothing should be no issue to back it out.

I have zero trouble moving my CX500 around the garage and it has over 100lbs of weight on your R6 its almost 500 lbs vs the 360 or so your R6 weighs

I, too, have a small "garage". Actually, it's a pool shed for our non-existant pool we had filled in.
I end up backing it into the shed, that way when I go to take it out, I just go out forwards. I am going to have to widen the door, though. I have to turn the bars one direction, then the other to get them through the doorway! Spring project...

I have a beautiful two car garage.... that I rent to my employer for $250/month for tool storage so I have three bikes under covers in the driveway. It sucks but I'm gonna do it for two more years. It's good actually - keeps me from buying more bikes. If I had the whole garage I'm not sure what I'd do.

If you don't like backing the bike out... why don't you back it into the garage?

Cycleworld or Motorcyclist had an story on this topic not long ago. They seemed to be advocating its use to turn a bike around. Me, I wouldn't do it.
