Filtering...unsafe and thrilling

So I was on the tollway in my area last night at about 1 AM crusin at about 60ish. All the sudden I got the urge to take off and start filtering traffic untill my exit. Now usually I supress this urge and play it safe and just enjoy the ride home. BUT I COULDN'T!

I kicked it to 6th and took off. I was cruisin at 95 - 100 mph flyin by cars like they were standing still. All the lights were flying by and i felt liek king of the rode...

Anyone else splurge sometimes and let loose?

I've found that people who do that tend to end up on the news... and shortly there-after in the morgue.

You want an honest opinion. That was a STUPID thing to do. And it's actions like that, that give bikers in general and sportsbikers especially a bad name.

I agree, but I think everyone can have a careless moment. The key is to look at it in review and realize it was a bad call. It is most of the reason people hate sportsbikes and for some they cannot seperate sportsbikes from all motorcycle. We should all ride like we are part of a club and if we abuse our right, or make the club look bad, we're out. But the thrill that was mentioned is a powerful one, and that is why everyone has a story about a sportsbike flying by, or running by on a wheelie, or crunched up on the news.

I do that... in my truck. Too bad 100 mph is it's top speed (maybe it's a good thing as the tires are only rated up to 113 mph). THough people aren't exactly standing still, it's more of a crawl by. I DO live in massachusetts... (for those that don't know, most peeps in MA drive with their heads up their bottoms regardless of weather conditions... Though we bring it to a whole new level. I think we're second only to NY in road rage in the US.)

It's stupid. Totally stupid, but one hell of a thrill. Got to admit, I've given into the demons a couple of times - though I don't do it as a general rule. Normally, I sit back sagely and think judgemental thoughts of riders who 'filter' at 80mph and more. I think they are f***** crazy - but then, doing something 'crazy' is sometimes the only way to stay sane.

Mostly, I content myself with slow-speed filtering. In London that's essential - unless you are willing to go completely nuts sitting in traffic queues while dozens of seventeen year old kids on scoots skim up to the front of the line. To sit quietly in traffic takes a level of maturity that I sincerely aspire to (but, I guess, I'm not there yet, and in no hurry to acquire it. I reckon I've still got a few years filtering left in me).

Running up the white line between rows of cars is the one thing that makes riding in city worth while.

I usually play it safe and seldom too. That was only the scond time I've ever filtered, the other time I was going 15mph to get up to the light...

I don't plan on being Ghostrider, but sometimes ya just gotta fly free.
