On what planet???

Ignoring the whole helmet with dubious history arguement... How the hell would you know it fits YOU right.

All heads are slightly different shapes and helmets tend to be different shapes to reflect that.

If you buy without trying it on you might as well send a mate to buy you one, and a elmet that dosnt fit properly probably wont protect you in a crash.

It's most likely he's already fitted the helmet and was looking for a cheaper price on ebay. If it's still factory wrapped I'd say go for it w/ insurance on shipping and marked in a box labeled fragile. I wouldn't get a helmet I know has been used and don't know what has happened to it.

the thing with ebay is that what's available is often stuff that no one is willing to buy in a store.

for helmets it would be those that are approaching the end of their 'shelf life' - that is already more than a year or two from date of manufacture. or those that are now 'old models' with no back support, face shields, etc.

I'd consider using ebay for a helmet purchase if A: i was already familiar with the exact model being offered and, B: i already knew that said model and SIZE fit me correctly. and C: the seller had a good record.

That and it's nearly impossible to get a good deal on e-bay anymore. Check the shipping costs, they will floor you.

A while back I went and bought some toys from my childhood. Imagine 3 little action figures that stand 1.5 inches tall each, and all together weigh less then a tube of toothpaste. I had someone try to charge me $20 in shipping.

I dislike E-bay now :P
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I've seen a few even tack on handling and required 'insurance' charges that far exceed what the post office charges!

Sometimes you'll get those low end deals where the shipping costs more than the price of the item (though suspiciously it adds up to the same as the other higher prices other were charging  )

Yeah ebay is getting bad...you really have to be careful. I think sellers are reading too many 'marketing' books on how to trick people into spending more money

Amen - I'll buy the occasional item there only because my bikes are a combined 50 years old and I sometimes can't find parts anywhere else. But Ebay is loaded with scammers and shill bidders. I'm sure I'll buy something there again at some point, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth every time.

I've bought 3 new helmets on ebay, very happy with them. I found a cheap but nice brand (Vega) that happens to fit my head perfectly.

Just be sure to buy from a seller that will offer a complete refund if it doesn't fit, not many will, some do. The cost savings has been tremendous.

ya, i won a signed baseball card on ebay and it was 15 buks for shipping, and it wasent even nice shipping like ups or fedex it was USPS, shipping is a scam and where people will try and rip you off, as for the helmet, all my points have already been said, so ya good bye
