You know, my perspective on things has just changed. You see last week my only concern was eating too much for Thanksgiving. Today I find myself unemployed for the first time in 14 years. Last week I joked about the South's weather allowing yearlong riding. This week I can't afford to put gas in my new bike muchless how to make the payments. There won't be a tree or presents under it. I'll try & make home made cards personalized as I always do but nothing with Uncle Bob's name on it under their tree. My family understands, I pray the lil ones do. Boy, this is starting to sound depressing. I just found out 3 days before Christmas that I have diabetes. I'm ready for a new year. Merry Christmas Y'all.

I just get the bike out and get on with it. I do have to close my eyes and think of something else every time I come close to losing the back wheel, but what the hell! Is this stupidity?pig headedness?an inability to act rationally in the face of an obsession? I can't tell, but I've had no inner promptings yet to make me want to put the bike away for the winter and take to the trains. Trains! What a fate!
Mind you, so far there's been no snow here to contend with, just torrential rain and hail and frost and ice and salt and greasy leaf slime. Oh yes, and mud everywhere - everywhere you go around here these days there are builders' vehicles spreading muck all over the roads.
AND some lousy driving. I'd love to know what the seasonal accident rates are, but from November on the number of crazy drivers on the roads rises dramatically. My adrenalin levels have been seriously raised by other road users almost every day for the last month.

Thats a rough deal you got there Bob, I hope things work themselves back out quickly, and that the new year is full of options for a new start

Yes
But then I did it too last year, and I'm just getting my new(ish) bike on the road this year, so I can't criticise (possibly too late)

Bob, that's tough. I'm sorry to hear your news. Best wishes for the coming months and hope you can sort something out.

Broken Bike Syndrome, tends to stop the riding, but not the longing to ride....
I don't think there is a cure for the longing
