that expense is already figured into the list price of the bike.
Out the door price should never be greater than list price unless you got some accessories or some kind of extended warranty.
There has to be a lot of profit built into the MSRP. There is a Yamaha/Suzuki dealer about 40 miles from here that sells their bikes for MSRP out the door and they usually throw in some accessories for free (usually some riding gear). Harley shops usually slap a huge markup over list on their bikes, and a bunch of other fees (they always try to snag you with adding a charge for a HOG membership), and lets not forget accessories which most HDs are loaded down with on the dealership floor, shell out $500 for a $100 KBC helmet just because it has the HD logo on it.
If you wanted to sell bikes and make a killing at it sell HDs.

All the bikes I look at are typically on the floor well below MSRP, then some places will add frieght etc. Either way the ones I checked end up being below MSRP even after taxes are applied.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Sev is right about this . Some crates take longer to dismantle than it does to build the bike . Especially Triumphs because they come in wooden crates that have to be beat apart . They really are a pain in the arse .Sevulturus wrote:I think that's a function of how much it costs to ship the bike. A 400lb package would naturally cost less then an 800lb package. But that's just my silly opinion. And the bigger bikes usually require more work to assemble. Believe it or not they do have to pay their mechanics to put the darn things together.
I build new bikes out of the "Crates" there are 4 of us and we stay constantly busy .
In this valley where I live all the dealerships charge prep charges because of the overhead .
Kawasaki charges a deposit for some of their crates and we ship those back to get our money back . If they didn't show the charges then the list price would simply be higher .
And as Lion Lady pointed out , the sales staff never hold a gun at anyone's head to make a sale .

You guy's have complex systems over there. BMW here have a published price that is country wide, no discounts, no free gear, What you see is what it is, regardless of the dealer. The other makes will haggle on the prices dependant on exchange rate. they do not break the prices down, just floor price and VAT.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

you guy's are getting off the point here though. This guys is pissed because the dealer made some $$$ off him. It doesn't matter if there is a crate charge prep charge tax & destination (look at your sticker on your car you bought last) he put his name on the doc and no one else. I'm getting tired of other people blaming others for their own mistakes. Heck we all make mistake but the true man lives up to them and acknowledges them and learns from them. Perhaps the guy woulda been better off coming to this forum BEFORE he bought and he wouldn't of had this problem. But I can't blame the dealer for making money.

When I bought my Honda 599 I did a fair bit of looking around. The first place I went to had the last black one, and I tried to talk them down a little. No joy whatsoever. So I went to the next place, I could get a yellow one for about $500 less, but I wanted black. I went back to the first place, and they offered me a $350 discount. That was okay, I was willing to pay the extra $150 or so.
I said that I would be in on such and such a day to pay for it and get it insured. The guy I talked to said he didn't have a shift, but would meet me there to finalize the sale (I suspect they were working on scomiision). He never showed up. Though one of the other dealers offered it to me at the original price. I said I'd deal with the guy I talked to, and said I'd come back.
I got him on the phone (at the store) the next day, and he told me that he wasn't allowed to sell it at the "discounted" price. I said, "fine, I'm going to Honda Extreme on 34 Ave and buying a yellow one for $500 less." And hung up.
That $500 less was before taxes I found out at the store. I saved a LOT of money buying the yellow one. And I refuse to deal with Scona Cycle anymore, though I did send a couple of letters there way explaining EXACTLY what happened, how much of my time they wasted, AND how much I saved by going to the competition. I also made a point of explaining how all of my friends wouldn't be buying from them either.

Good job! I know when I bought my 2006 C50 I walked out the door over $100.00. I was sure I wasn't gonna get the bike that day till I got down the road and realized I'd forgotten my drivers license there!
When I walked back in the door, the sales rep comes up and hands me a sales order sheet with the price I WANTED to pay and a note saying OK you win on it.
So I took the deal and ended up adding a extended warranty and some accessories and stuff and all was right in the world that day. I know I got a good deal, not sure if it was the best deal, but the bottom line is that both parties "agreed" to the deal. I can sure live with that. I'm a very happy rider!!
