Have you ever had one of those days?

#1 Unread post by zertndo »

I will never live this down....I had just bought a beautiful HD Roadking Classic, Black Cherry in color. I am riding it home and come to stop at a traffic light on an 8 lane highway. As the bike comes to a stop, I try to put my right leg down when the cuff got stuck on the back corner of the floor board.

I was wearing very baggy pants and didn't change when my bike came in because I wanted it soooo bad. Anyway, by the time I got my leg loose, the bike had already leaned past 45 degrees to the right so all I could do was control the fall. This took a split second but felt like an eternity for me.

Picture this....I am now lying on the ground with this 1,000 pound monster on me with traffic wizzing by. When the light turned red, I heard this very small voice asking me if I needed help and when I looked up, I saw a little old lady in a VW smiling at me. Very embarrasing.

To top all of this off, when I finally got the bike verticle and back in the seat, it would not start. I sat in the fast lane, (yes, this was all in the fast lane), waiting for the darn thing to start as tractor trailors and buses screamed by. If you don't believe in GOD, well sorry, but I feel he sent the angels to watch over a big fool that day.

Not sure if that's a funny story or not, but I have to say you have a true funny bone in you to laugh at yourself looking back at that situation. Your a strong person for it.

Thanks for sharing the story... I hope there wasn't much damage on the new H-D.

...and welcome to the community!!

Well Mike, I was laughing while I was laying on the road. Nothing else to do until I could get up.

Plus, no damage what so ever to the bike or the crash bars. Just a little dirt.

Thanks for the welcome and Merry Christmas.

The standard engine bars on the Roadking (& other models) are great!

Most of the time in situations like yours, the bike just falls ONTO the engine bar which arrests the bike from toppling completely over.

Picking the bike up from the engine bar is easy.

I'm glad your OK & your bike is still unmolested.
