Who has been to the dragon?
I'm going to ride the dragon in April. What are your opinions about that road and the town? Are the police strict? Is it easy to get a hotel room? Is the road full of traffic?

April is a good time. We hit it in the middle of April in the morning on the middle of the week. Stop at the shop at the end. We saw about 100 bikes go through in an hour. I would stay away on weekends and the summer. Fun to do but there are better roads in the area. Watch out for oncoming traffic that does not stay in their lane.
I would be the old, slow guy. Just let me know where you are going and I'll try to get there before you leave.

Went to the Smoky mountains in 01, 02, 03, and 04. That pic was from 01 when son and I rode the Dragon on the way back from the Honda Hoot in Knoxville to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are many roads down there as good as the Dragon, they just haven't been promoted like the Dragon has. Stayed in Maggie Valley, NC in 03 and 04 for a few days and rode many of them.
On the trip up the BRP to I77 in 01 I had a K491 touring tire on the back and went home and switched to sport touring radials and better tires after that and quit riding like a mature adult for a few years.

We stayed in Knoxville and rode down to the Dragon in the morning. There are motels and campgrounds in the area, but I imagine they're more expensive and likely to fill up quickly, especially if there's an event in town (like the S2000 rally while we were there).

I've been there, I don't care for the Dragon as much as some of the other rides around there. It's worth doing just to say you've been there. The area is nice and we had no trouble with any leo, of course you don't have to ride fast to have fun on those roads. I'm more likely to get into trouble down here where I can hit 180 on just about any road I chose any day of the week.
Next April we have a couple dozen from the Hayabusa forum going up there. That will be the last weekend in April.
