noisy RPM cable

#1 Unread post by peterman »

The RPM cable on my 1983 xs400 is really noisy. If I jiggle the cable going into the guage I can get it to stop for a while but not for good. Is this a sign I need to tighten fittings, new guages or new cable?

Thanks

Sounds like the guage to me if you can wiggle it and it'll stop...the cable will usually just snap and you're tach won't work...

You could try replacing the cable as that'll be just a 15 dollar fix and see, but my money would be on replacing the guage...you should be able to find a guage cluster off ebay...

Good luck

I'll add it to my list of things I'm currently looking for on ebay. If the list gets much longer I may just be looking for a buyer off ebay. Then I'll use the money for a bike that doesn't have an "ebay list"

thanks for the help.
