what to get

i am thinking of getting a motorcycle and i am planning to just use it for a couple months in the summer and iam looking for a bike, used, no more then 2000$ and no less than 1000$, mostly town driving, some country roads, what kind of bike would you reccomend?, what would you not reccomend? and is a crotch rocket a realistic exspectation at all for that price range?

You need to supply your motorcycling experience and training, stature, etc if you want a recommendation or opinion.

never rode before, but am taking the classes soon, so no experience really at all.........

The following Rules of thumb are boiled down from the usual advice given on the New Biker Forum

1) Dont get a sportsbike (Crotch rocket) - you may think you look sexy on it but you wont look as sexy when you are in a caste. Besides the plastic costs a fortune when you drop it and the insurance is often crippling.

2) Go for something 600cc or less. It will be more forgiving and you will be less likely to have an accident.

3) Whatever you are planning to spend on the bike make sure you get safety gear first. Thats a fitting Helmet, Bike Jacket, Bike Pants, Bike Boots and Bike Gloves. Dont scimp on your safety gear. You have one body - protect it.

4) Take the MSF course and dont hit the roads until afterwards.

5) Buy a damn big lock, even if you think no one would want to steal your ride. Someone, somewhere will try.

6) Get a bike with a clear title, not a rebuilt or salvage title.

7) Practise, Practise and Practise. The more practise you have the more chance you have of doing erxactly the right thing if the crumb hits the fan.

Enjoy. Getting the most out of life is what being on a bike is all about.

Just to satisfy our curiosity, why are you thinking of getting a motorcycle? Is it some kind of unfulfilled dream, or strictly a move to save money, or just a summer lark, lacking passion and committment, sort of like, you know, a quickie with a strange girl on a warm summer day?
We deal in passion here, either you gotta ride or you are a potential poseur.......we want you to be into it, in a big, personal, way.

man youv been stuck in a car too long, just relax a bit. i dont think anyone was on the attack against you. just trying to get a feel for what kind of riding you will be doing before suggesting a bike for you to check out.
