I have had a 1980 cb750c for several years. It is cosmetically challenged but has been very dependable and low maintenance (I love that about this bike). The bike has wire spoke wheels and the right hand side cover off of a 1978 cb750k. (I think the wheel is a little bigger than the 1980 cb750c stock wheel) I was wanting to change the look of the bike to something a little more unique but can not justify putting a lot of money in an old bike. One thought was that I have seen some bikes with big tires on both the front and back that I thought looked very cool. I have not seen that done on my model bike though. Being spoke wheels, I assume they have tubes. I would like to get front tires big enough to fill it up to the fender and on the back as big as possible. Any advice, suggestions or opinions?
Another thought I had was changing out the seat to a single seat instead of the stock 2-seater (although it looks better than a straight bench seat). Do they make such a seat? Where can I get one on the cheap?
One other thing I thought of doing was to purchase one of those bolt-on front end chopper kits. They have them in 9, 14, and 18 degree rakes. I was thinking a modest 9 degree rake would be cool but the kits are priced ~$1800. If you look at the few parts in this kit on the web site that you actually need, I feel that they are robbing you blind. Once again, I can't justify that much money on an old bike. Any other alternative ideas???
One other thing I thought might be affordable and worthwhile was to lower the rear shocks by 1-2 inches. That looks affordable from what I have seen on e-bay but I don’t know if that would change the overall look much if any. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks,
Dan
