The buddy who got me into riding gave the standard of having 1000 miles of riding under my belt before I should 'maybe' take a passenger. At around 1200 miles I let a petite young lady ride on the back remembering the important stuff (takes longer to break, handling being different, etc) and it was fine. Now I don't think twice about having the gf jump on the back, even welcome it.

She doesn't have the butt-endurance for longer rides and although I've offered her to ride on my buddys bike which is designed more for comfortable touring than my Deuce, she'll only ride on mine. Addressing the suggestion of having your lady ride with a buddy, women look at that differently than us men.......

I re read this a couple of times, confident that as a long time two up rider I could bestow upon you some jewel of advice.

OOPS I can't. I am really struggling to see some pivotal point that occured with me.

My pillion always had faith in my ability and I always had faith in my ability maybe that is the right time.
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

Backrests RULE for pillions!
I would NEVER consider having a pillion on a bike without one.

Comfort
Safety
It's all there one that baby is installed! (The back rest I mean)
