New Project - 88 Zuk Katana 600

Hey guys,
Kinda to my surprise, I won this ebay auction:

I plan to clean the carbs, get it running right, then ride it this summer. I'm 6'3" so if im too big for it i'll just sell it, i'm thinking for a profit.

Do you guys think it was a deal? Can you tell me anything about this bike? I've never owned a sport bike or even ridden one. I've always had UJM's.

I do have to travel 300 miles to pick it up, but i have a trailer and a truck so whatever.

I just found out I won this, and I'm kinda half scared because I'm not sure what I got myself into. As long as there is nothing more wrong then what this guy says then I can def fix this. I just hope these bikes dont suck!

anyone have an opinion? Am i completely wrong and this is not a deal? it seems i could have a running inspected katana with 3k miles and great cosmetic condition for 1200 or less once im done with it. That seems like a deal no?

That bike for $770 seems like a good deal, if he really replaced all that he says and the only work is what is mentioned there (it was a little hard to read without any paragraphs and all caps, at least he used some punctuation).

I'd say feel good about your purchase and congrats on the bike! If you're planning on spending up to 1,200 on it I think you could have a real slick bike when you are done.

I'd spring for a paint job though

At least get the red tank to match the seat better!

Keep us updated and show us some progress pics. Sounds like a fun project, I woulda jumped on it myself.

just to clarify, i was only planning on spending 1200 on it including the cost of the bike

the good thing is that i'll clean the carbs myself and do all the work myself so i wont pay any labor costs.

As far as the seat, I probably will get a corbin saddle if i decide to keep the bike. The cost of that would be above my 1200 of course though.

The Katriders.com forums will have all the resources you need for fixing up that bike. There are plenty of informative threads, so use search and you'll be a happy Katana owner. I have an '89 Kat 600, myself. Love the bike, seat is really comfy, even after over 200 straight miles.

Add a few hundred dollars to your budget and put some new rubber on it. The description on Ebay would lead me to believe that it's wearing 24 year old tires. Although they might look OK, they're not. Rubber degrades over time due to environmental factors.

Other than that, if the bike is as advertised, I think you got a pretty good deal.

I'm 6' even, but with a long torso and I fit perfectly. It shouldn't be a problem to fit your frame.
