Electronic Flip Down Licence Plates

Hello, everyone yet another newbey hear

For along while i had been searching for a electronic flip down licence plate
i came across this site http://www.speedflip.com where i bought a speedflip this is a great bit of kit, i fitted it to my bike in under 15 min i didnt have to do any wireing as the device has its own power supply, when i come to a speed camera i just flick the control switch and my rear licence flips open flick switch again and it flips back to the legal position,
it gives me great satisfaction to know im beating the bloody speed cameras, this device is the speeders dream.

I'd been fantasizing about designing something like that for my car and bikes since I've been driving. After getting my Camaro (since totalled by an old man) that I may one day desperately need to elude apprehension.

My cheapest idea was to roll up a towel above the plate with a string tied around it that led to the cockpit. If in need, yank the string.

Wonder what the state and federal laws have to say about even owning such a device? They might see it as something bank robbers/stickup artists might use. If stopped for any reason, it would be subject to scrutiny by the police, who take a dim view of being intentionally deceived. I got a lot of heat for having a dark-smoke colored license plate cover. No tickets, but dire warnings.

The cops will tell you that this piece is for show bikes only. If you are caught using it on the street they get very upset.

i doubt its legal, the big thing a while back was using reflective tape that was invisible until the camera flash hit it then it glared the plate out of site, and that quickly became illegal. on a bike you might get away with it though

you knowthose pictures that change depending upon the angle you look at them? Well there are clear covers like that, so if you look at a license plate head on(directly behind) you see it normally, but when viewed from the side or any other angle it's just white. I keep seeing these in McDonalds drivethru's. It's like they cannot afford to eat anywhere else.

The guys I worked with this summer had big trucks, and they all used trailers sometimes, as part of the hitch there is a cable that connects the break lights on the trailor to the truck. This conviently covered their license plate when the trailor was not hooked up. The mount was broken, and I have not had time to get it replaced officer...

either of those would get you a ticket if the cop is in the mood. its illegal to obscure your plate knowingly or other wise


the best thing to do would be sitck reflective tape all around but not on the plate, when the cam flash goes off there will be so much glare. but a cop cant say anything because your plate isnt covered in any way by anything.

That's not a bad idea at all. If it works, it will sidestep all the current laws about obscureing plates here....
