I saw a couple if die hards out riding today. At least they had on some reflective stuff so they were quite visible.

There is "camporee" over in Qualicum coming this summer. When you check out the websites go to the Langley one and you will find a discussion about it.
They said they had a great time and they've already booked space for this year's. They are an active bunch of people.

Yeah my riding gear has 3M reflective piping on most of the seams. When light hits it it glows like it's a light itself, even from far away. I have heard about the Qualicum trip, sounds like a party.

Did you get a reprieve from the rain over there on the island? We did yesterday and today. Although it is raining again tonight.

However, lots of bikers took advantage of the brief dry spell and were out riding this weekend.
I haven't decided what to do about insurance yet....either in a couple of weeks...of course then we'll get the usual February deepfreeze and I won't be able to ride anyway...or I can still just wait until the weather is a more certain bet.

I hope you got a chance to go enjoy the dry spell on two wheels.

Yup. We had the same dry spell over the weekend here. The poopy thing about that is I was already booked for non-two wheeled activities. Only had one chance to ride, on Friday eve. for an hour or so. However, I was helping some friends move into a new house, so the break from the rain was perfect timing.

Nice ride today, also no rain.

I haven't been active on this site for quite a while so missed your earlier post. SCRC has several chapters right here on Vancouver island. If you want to join the Victoria chapter I suggest you do that. We have all manner of people and all different types of bikes. One thing to be sure, you will be welcome however I suggest you take the time to step up and introduce yourself to the members as there are times when a shy newcomer can get slighted inadvertantly. It's never deliberate but the members can get involved in banter and forget to introduce themselves. Sundays we tend to congregate at Tim Hortons near Costco. Check the website for times as well as events.

I am just waiting for ICBC to get their butts in gear and deliver my license plates (collector plates) for my old Yamaha but there are many members that maintain license year round on their machines (which I intend to do on the old Yamaha now that it has reched vintage status) and usually it aint hard to find someone wanting to ride providing the weather is reasonable.

Before I had ever heard of the SCRC, I was shopping at Home Outfitters (on a Sunday) and saw 10 or 15 motorcylces at the Tim Horton's. That's something I can't let go without a looksee, so I convinced my wife we needed a coffee. After oogling over the diverse collection of bikes, I went inside and saw the matched diverse collection of riders. All types were there, from the racetrack ready crotch-rocket & kevlar suit, to the big old Harley with skull cap & chaps. I was most suprised and impressed. Not only were they all together, but they were all obviously good friends, laughing and jokin etc. It was an amazing and joyful sight. I was still stoked Monday morning at work, I told a couple of workmates about it, and how awestruck I was. One of them said very casual, like it was old news, "yeah thats the Southern Cruisers." Yahoo! Lucky day! Now I know who they are. I thought I should be joining. Went for a few months without insurance on my ride, now I have it back and am going to join, especially after the good feedback from all who I ask. Thanks, see you at Tim Horton's.

Question for you... what constitutes vintage staus for a motorcycle??

Insurance for the year (Yamaha) is $172 for me this year as opposed to $1200 for the sportster sitting beside it. Guess which bike doesn't have insurance right now and which one does.

How do I know if I qualify for Collector plates and premiums?
You and your vehicle must meet each of the following requirements:
• Your vehicle is one of the following:
- at least 25 years older, or
- at least 15 years old and is a limited production vehicle; that is, 1,500 or fewer of that model were produced by the manufacturer worldwide for that model year, or
- at least 15 years old and the owner of the marque or make of your vehicle has ceased manufacturing vehicles of any kind for at least five years.
• Your vehicle is in exceedingly good stock condition regardless of age and is maintained or restored to meet the manufacturer's original specifications.
• The model year of your vehicle is the model year designated by the manufacturer.
• Your vehicle is registered in BC.
• Your vehicle is a true vehicle, not a "replicar", "replikit" (kit car), cab/chasis, or motor home.
• You own or lease another non-Collector vehicle registered and insured in your name or you drive a company vehicle for everyday transportation, which is a passenger vehicle, light commercail vehicle of 5,000 kg GVW or less, or motorcycle. It must be insured for pleasure use, to and from work, business, farm, artisan, fisherman or delivery use.
• Your Collector vehicle is driven ONLY for pleasure use and not, at any time, to drive to or from, or part way to or from, work or school.
What if my vehicle has parts that are not from the original manufacturer of the vehicle?
Generally, the vehicle must be as close as possible to the way it was originally manufactured. However, you may upgrade a vehicle's brakes, brake lights or headlights, or install seat belts, safety glass, directional signals or era accessories (as listed on the application for Collector vehicle status). In addition, certain types of "modified vehicles" qualify for Collector plates and premiums.

Very cool. Thanks for the info and link. If and when I ever do get that old GS750 restored, I can get vintage status. It's already 28yrs old.

Couple things have happened since I last posted... I joined SCRC, just received my welcome letter from Karen;

and I got another bike. Just picked a showroom mint condition 1995 Suzuki VS800 Intruder. Only 15K, garage kept, summer ridden only. Very nice and clean, great ride and great deal. Transfered insurance from the Ninja to it, now I feel like I have to change my username on here because I have moved on from the Ninja.
