view points on some of my choices

#1 Unread post by Kbenton »

Okay, I've been researching motorcycles for just about a year and will be taking the msf in early summer. My personal list of favorite bikes are as follows, kaw. ex500, vulcan 500, vulcan 750, vulcan 900, suz. katana 600, sv 650, m50 black, c50 black, triumph bonneville black, and finally bonneville american.

I've researched most of these bikes to death and the most likely candidates are the vulcans, ex, bonneville, american. I haven't found anyone on any forums that ride the vulcan 750 or the american, they are two great looking bikes. I love the old school look of the vulcan and am curious is there anyone out there that can give me the low down on this model being a good first choice as well as the american and bonneville?

So I take it no one in this entire forum has owned a vulcan 750 or a triumph american? Shocking to say the least. :(

Best advice I can give is go out to some bike dealers and sit on EVERY one of those bikes you listed. You will find that your opinions may change drastically once you sit on the bike. The bike you really liked the looks of may be uncomfortable as hell for you, and the bike that you thought was at the bottom of your list may fit you like a glove.

The most important part of buying a bike is getting the bike that fits YOU. If you find the bike uncomfortable you wont ride it and probably wont be as confidant when riding it.

with that being said most of your list would work fine as first bikes though the SV650 is considered about the max for a first bike.

I think the guy above me is very smart. I would listen to what he said there.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Well, I had a '99 Vulcan Drifter 1500 and a '95 Triumph Thunderbird, do they count?

yeah, i was so crazy for the hayabusa bec of its looks in the pictures i saw and especially the kanji graphics for the "hayabusa" (falcon) on the sides.

but when i saw it on the actual dealerhip... it was too fat and too bulky for my taste. it was the right color i want (black/red) and i can afford it but it's really too big for me.

i sat on a black/red SV1000, i wasn't gonna get any bike other than a red/black color and it must be a suzuki, it felt ok, i was gonna buy it but then somebody beat me to it.

and so that's how i found my black/red GSXR, sat on it, the seat height is perfect, and i like it better since not only is it even lighter than the SV, it was the most sleek and stylish bike i have ever seen.

but still, i can't lift it up... curse! my weak lifting strenght
