Who is a good rider?

#1 Unread post by Dirtytoes »

how can i know if someone is a good rider?

the only way i know right now is to look at the edge/side of the tires to see how far(& how much) the bike has been leaned.

are there any other ways?

The chicken strips aren't necessarily an indication of a good rider, or not in the way I'm thinking of.

Cause you can be a mighty aggressive "O Ring" and have thin chickenstrips. I might have respect for you in that aspect but I wouldn't consider them a good rider.

When they can make a rolling stop so well that even the cops would have a hard time spotting it.

Why not quantify for us what you think a good rider should be?
I spent my therapy money an a K1200S
The therapy worked, I got a GS now
A touch of insanity crept back in the shape of an R1200R

ride with em, thats how you can know. If they look sloppy and or make many mistakes, probably not a very experenced/good rider. Simple enough

I know some signs of a BAD rider:

> Duck walking into or away from a stop. Also known as 'landing gear' or outrigging.
> Braking IN a turn.
> Putting the bike in neutral at red lights.
> "Tacking" around a curve... series of corrections instead of a single smooth line.

You must not live near any of the giant intersections I occasionally sit through  There's some three or four minute four-way lights around here. I understand the concept behind leaving it in gear and usually do... but not when I'm gonna be there for a while and totally surrounded by a wall of non-moving cars.
