1974 Honda CL 360 Cam question

I took the valve/cam cover to inspect and I found wear/galling in what I guess would be called the cam bearing. There really is no bearing, it looks like the cam journal rides right on the aluminum with no bearing. A couple of questions, is this a normal occurance with these engines and do I need to replace the head and cam cover or can I emery cloth it back smooth and live with what groves are left.

I'm pretty sure they bearingas are made into the cover. DO NOT emrey paper the bearings. The best plan of action is to get some plastigauge and use that to measure out your clearance, and check the stats to the book.

if the clearance is still OK, then it's probably OK to use. If the clearance is too great, then you need to buy new head/cover .

It may be cheaper to buy a different engine.

Thank you for responding. I took a much better look at the head and cam cover last night. There looks to be far to much wear in the cyl. head to even try and reuse. I am going to look for another engine and/or cyl. head and cam cover.
