I am guessing, but imagine the law reads something to the effect that any device obscuring or otherwise changing the appearance of a license plate is illegal. If you wanna try the cops on for size, go ahead, they will win on this one. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, and manipulation of it won't work, either.

Well, if I happen to put my license plate in the middle of a 2 foot square of SOLAS-rated reflective material, "so cagers can see me," well, I'm not touching the plate itself! ;)

No worries, I'm not about to do that. I prefer not attracting the attention of the police at all, myself.

i dont speed so im not worried bout it. every time i pass a parked photo radar van i see it flash for everyone around me, and soon as it flashes the cars hit the brakes realizing what had just happened to them. or the red light flashes as well.

i still think my refletive tape idea would get you out of it, dont make it obvious like your out to do anything witht he plate of course and be oblivious to the idea of a camera flash, stick with its to help cars see you.

we could just all go the speed limit...
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Disclaimer; Although it is legal to fit this device we must stress that use on public roads is not. We recommend this product be used for show and offroad use only.

of course they do or they would be in court for ever, with people tickets. It would bee nice if it worked, but Id rather not be caught to begin with.

When offroad, why not just put duct tape over the plate if you just gotta hide it--no cops off-road, anyway.

flip down plate

#20 Unread post by varenka »

This is a state by state law:

# The use of colored glass, colored plastic or any other type of license plate covering is prohibited if it alters or obscures the alpha-numeric information or color of the license plate. The law also prohibits the mounting of insignias, emblems, trailer hitches or couplings in such a way as to hide or obscure any portion of the license plate.

This is in Virginia, the state that outlawed radar detectors, so my guess is that in this state, owning such a device would get you pinged.
