Riding Naked? Riding Covered?

Ok, so i ride a EX500 atm. I love it and i love riding. Im getting better at the riding but it seems every day i run into something i dont know. What is so special about a naked bike as opposed to a covered bike? Are they faster, lighter, cause i sure dont think they look better. Anouther thing im curious about, towing a bike. How should i go about doing that, just put it in neutral and go, or should i dissassemble something or some part.

oh and PS, one other thing, anyone know of the best way to remove the rear wheel? I had a damn drop today. 3rd in almost 7 months but still just as lame as the first. This time i fed up the rear wheel though and need to put this new one on. So should i just give it to a mechanic or is it do-able for an average joe?

everyone likes what they like, but is there any difference in a naked bike or a covered bike other than apperence?

Not that I know of. For example, you can get an SV650, which is a naked bike with a round headlight. The SV650S is the faired version (well, half-faired) and comes with a different style of headlight.

Would a naked bike not be faster? I'm not sure how much a fairing weighs but surely it'd weigh it down some.

That or the weight of a fairing is negligable. I haven't a clue.

But personally I think a naked bike just looks better.

naked bikes don't appeal to me.

i have a question. how much more naked does a naked bike have to be, to be considered a streetfighter?

Streetfighter, from what I can gather, is a wrecked bike that got more or less scrapped, and then re-done, and called a streetfighter.

There's alot of difference between naked and body's. Areodynamics is a key issue here. Wind resistance is reduced when your tucked down into the fairing on a full or semi full bodied bike. There is also less wind turbulance over covered bike parts. The down side of this however is riding in bad winds that will hit you from either side. The body actually allows more surface area to be buffetted. Just from the looks stand point i really like the look of the yellow bike pictured above, but again that's just personal choice.

The fairinged bike is better for long distance and touring, the naked is a better urban bike.

It's impossible to compare naked in general to faired in general because there are so many different of each kind. Though in general a naked bike can be said to be tuned for more torque and HP in the lower rev range. While faired sportbikes typically need to be rung out into the high rev ranges to fully use the HP availible.

I like the fact that you can actually see the engine on a naked bike as opposed to hiding everything under the fairing. Though to be honest I think that most nakeds are essentially sport bikes with the fairings hacked off. You can tell by looking at the distance between the engine and the front wheel, it looks like something should be in that space.

Faired bikes will typically have a more aggressive riding position as well, but that varies from bike to bike. You'd be better off asking the differences between two specific bikes. And you failed to mention bikes wih half fairings etc etc. So I believe that you just mean super sport vs nakeds...
