Zooks have had all manner of bells and whistles for, like, ever. Remember the digital gear readout on the GT triples?
Man, I guess so.
I have a simple way to solve this problem. Everyone send me your old Bikes!!! I need to brush up on my old* bike knowledge!
*for the purposes of this post, Old = anything manufactured before the year 2000 ...

I always turned my petcock off on the Nighthawk. Don't have to worry about it anymore though. For some reason, mine would run a little weak if I hadn't turned the petcock off, but I never had any leaking.

Bingo. On my bike, if you leave the vacuum petcock on PRI (prime), it will flood your carbs, overflowing into your air box, trashing your filter. Unless your float needles are absolutely pristine.

for some reason mine was on Pri and i didnt notice, i road maybe 10 miles with it that way i think before realizing it. hope i didnt screw anything up arg.
my old bike id turn it to Off and always forget to put it to On, after letting it warm up i had just enough fuel in the line to get out of a parking lot go to make a turn and the engine would die lol

Riding in 'prime' is just like riding in 'on'.... fuel fills the floatbowls, the engine sucks it out and burns it.... no problem. If your parked and the float needles seat, no problem... if the needles leak, you'll have fuel leaking everyplace.
It is only a factor if the bike is sitting, riding it in any position but 'off' won't hurt anything if the carbs are even close to working properly.
im pretty sure it was left a few days on Pri before, it deffinetly had no gas leaking under it or anything that i could tell, so i hope it didnt do anything to it.
i was in such a habbit with my old bike to put it in Off, when i got my new one i forgot and threw it on pri after a ride one day ; )

Lol, i used to do the same thing on the Nighthawk. I would make it halfway down the road to my friends house and die at the same stop sign everytime. But I never forgot at work or anywhere else, only when leaving home lol.
