2005 Ducati Monster 620

I can get this bike new for around $5000.00 and since i won some cash on the lottery (not getting into amounts) im not worried about having to go used for first bike.

Very conservative driver, plan on taking all the saftey courses. Been riding dirt bikes for probobly a good year i understand all the footwork with shifting/down shifting... throttle all that bit.

This would be my first bike bike on the road. What do you think? its a 618cc bike. Im not too worried about jumping into the throttle by accadent and dumping it.. i think i have all that set.

What do you think? Stuff im just not getting? I appreciate the help guys.

It'd doable, on the lower end of the grey area for beginner bikes.

EDIT: Just noticed the year for dirtbikes. You'll be fine. Just hope it wasn't a 1 hour a week plan and you really learned to toss it around. One of the biggest issues with new riders is learning to control the power. That's what's great about say a 50 hp bike. you dump the clutch at 4k rpm you'll get a little front wheel hop and not too much more. Do it on a 150 hp bike and you'll be pointing at the sky. Since you already have the main basics, your biggest issue will be dealing with traffic and such. I think you'll be fine with only 13 hp over the max recomended for a total noob. Just resist the urge to take it off road

Oh yeah, keep on the dirtbike if you can, practice is practice, regardless of what you're on.

i agree, doable but still a tad bit risky for a first bike

I think it's a good choice since you have some dirt experience.

Monster 620 is mild but fun, have a blast

Oh ... since you are going ducati, and money isn't an issue (Congrats BTW,) I would highly recommend that you have a certified Duc Mechanic install Martin Brickwood Performance valve collets. http://www.mbpducati.com/

No affiliation with these guys, but these collets increase your valve check interval from 6,000 miles to 18,000 miles. Well worth the cost.

I like the S2R myself. Though I cringe every time I think about maintainance costs on a duc.

my buddy john has one and it was his frst bike ever...the only damage he has done so far is breaking his face...but thats from when the garage door hit it.
