Opinions Wanted - Possible Safety Campaign

#1 Unread post by jagger »

Hello,
I am in the beginning stages of a safety campaign for motorcycle riders in a midwestern state. I would greatly appreciate anyone answering the following questions. Thanks so much for your time.

1. How long have you been riding a motorcycle?
(Specific: Riding, motorcycle, years/months?)

2. Since you started riding, have you ever been in an accident? If yes, please answer the following questions.
a. How many times have you been in an accident?

b. Did any of the accidents involve other vehicles such as cars?

c. Were any of the accidents so severe that you visited the ER or were hospitalized? If yes, please indicate the type of injury sustained.

3. Do you think there is a need to raise awareness for motorcycle safety?
a) If yes, what would be the best way to do this? Please provide a list of suggestions.

4. What do you think are some incentives that would motivate motorcycles riders to participate in a safety campaign?

5. In the past few years, has anyone tried to stop you from riding motorcycle?
If yes, who was the person?

6. What did that person say?

7. What was your reaction?

8. When riding your motorcycle, how often do you wear a helmet or other protective gear?
a. What kinds of safety equipment do you use, if any?

Thank you.

(Specific: Riding, motorcycle, years/months?)
About 4 months. About 3000 miles.

2. Since you started riding, have you ever been in an accident?
Well I dumped the bike in a parking lot while learning to ride. Does that count?

If yes, please answer the following questions.
a. How many times have you been in an accident?
Just that once if you want to count it.

b. Did any of the accidents involve other vehicles such as cars?
Nope

c. Were any of the accidents so severe that you visited the ER or were hospitalized? If yes, please indicate the type of injury sustained.
Well, I was sore for a few days. Skinned a knee.

Learning to ride safely

5. In the past few years, has anyone tried to stop you from riding motorcycle? Uf yes, who was the person?
No, not really. A lot of people told me it was dangerous, but nobody tried to stop me.

6. What did that person say?
"Did I tell you about my mother's, cousin's, brother's, barber. who knows a guy, who's sister, used to date a guy who got killed on a motorcycle."

7. What was your reaction?
The death rate for motorcycle riders is the same as non riders. One per person.

8. When riding your motorcycle, how often do you wear a helmet or other protective gear?
All the time.

a. What kinds of safety equipment do you use, if any?
Full face helmet, armored jacket, gloves, jeans, over the ankle steel toed boots.

1) 3 months, XR200R (dirtbike). Duno about miles, but many hours.
2) Yes. Many times. Mainly from me being acting like a squid.
2B) I cliped my stepdad's dirtbike at about 40 mph, result was a kinda high-side.
2C) Left wrist in a splint for about 10 days. 10 stiches over my right eye, glasses cut me. landed face first and slid 30-40 ft on rough ground (rocks, roots, dirt).
3) YES. PSA's, radio spots, more motorcycle awarness required during driving school for your regular car license.
4) Swag. But a lot of people on bikes would participate probably, after all, it's about them.
5) Nope. Step-dad encouraged it (riding for 30+ years), mom was OK with it, and Dad just worries.
8) Only twice have i gone without a helmet. Once when putting out of the woods after my accident (had to get the bike home somehow
 ) and when i was test riding my GS 700 that i just got. On the dirt bike i always had Helmet, long pants, MX boots, gloves, glasses or goggles. Often i would wear a mildly-heavy street jacket. No padding, but anti-abbrasive enough for dirt use.
