what should i do? 1st maintenance, oil change.

i recieved a mail from suzuki reminding me that road bikes need to have their 1st maintenance after 600 miles or 2 months, whichever comes 1st.

2 months for me will be feb 19. i only have 250 miles on my bike so far. i'll probably reach almost 400 miles by that date.

should i follow 2 months since it will come sooner? or should i just wait until 600 miles which is also the end of my break-in period?

You can change the oil easily yourself. And you're already starting to range further and further from home. After the MSF you'll start running it even more, I'd be surprised if you didn't hit 600 miles in the next month or so.

it's not as easy to do it myself on my bike. i need to remove the fairings.

plus, for some reason, the onwner's manual that came w/ my bike is for the '03 gsxr1000... so everything's not exactly the same.

but thanks though, i'll wait 600 miles, it shouldn't be that late.

Thats weird. I'd pick up a proper owners manual off ebay. Find a service manual, too. They're pricey (about 50 bucks), but its worth it. You should definately change your own oil, because little stuff like that is just money down the tube at a dealership.

May have to remove some fairings but I bet its not as hard as you think.

Learn to do yourself. It is the easiest way to save time and money. If you spend a couple times pulling the fairing off and doing the oil, you will be proficiant at it in now time.

well yeah, i need to be good at messing around w/ my bike since im planning to have track days in the future.

but on my 1st time doing maintenance, i feel like i need supervision.

The 600 mile service isn't just about the oil change. They check everything (or are suppose to), including valve adjustment. If you don't do everything (and keep reciepts) you run the risk of voiding your warranty.
