The reason you outgrow a pedal bike is because you get bigger while the bike's dimensions remain static. The truth is most sport bikes are about the same size, just bigger engines crammed into them.

Outgrowing a bike is one of those, "I really just want a bigger faster cooler looking bike then the one I already have but don't want to say it out loud" arguments. But of course they'll never admit that. For some reason we need to have 100+hp on the rear wheel of our bike to have fun.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Well, thanks for clearing that up.

Can any of you suggest good brands of helmets or pants? (I've read the helmet sizing thread btw)

Helmet - Anything that is DOT or SNELL approved, the better it fits you, the better it protects. Do not fall into the trap of thinking that a more expensive helmet will protect you better. There was a study recently that actually contradicted this "fact."

Pants - They're all basically equal, look for something with armor as it's the impact that does the most lasting damage, broken bones and the sort.

Helmets are all built to the same certifications, more or less. As long as it's DOT you're good to go. Snell is a bonus, too.

What makes each helmet different is how it fits YOU. Don't worry about how your head will come out during a crash, because the $100 Nolan passed the same tests as the $500 Shuomi (Or Nuomi or whatever it's called). Just the latter will look better and fit better.

As for pants, I don't know. Not gonna wear pants.

No, it will not fit better. Suomy and Arai, and Shoei fit a different type of head, usually a rounder noggin as opposed to an oval one.

The extra cost goes towards:

lighter materials
smaller design
better venting
better/different graphics
brand name recognition

What is gixxer exactly? Does it refer to the G in the name or the 1000 or what?

Some girl at a convenience store asked me if I was riding a "gixxer" pronounced it "jixxer"...I thought she was strange and she probably thought I was an idiot when I said "Um no I ride a buell."

Gixxer is just a GSXR. It's just another brand of bike just like a GS (Which I think is the Bandit) or a GSX (Katana).

It's known to be fast and furious so that's probably the only bike the lady knew about. That and a Harley.

You call it a Jixxer when you roll the letters together.
