Those things are cool! I've wanted to make one, but other things come first. IE bike. Then modding my ranger. THEN other toys.claytonfaulkner wrote:havnt started... i have to decide on an engine and drive system b4 i can start welding but when im done it will look somethin like this http://desertkarts.com/

You need a snowmobile engine...and the clutch. They make great cart engines.

Maybe an engine and transmission from a shaft drive bike (like a goldwing for example) and the differential from an ATV.
Another albiet non MC engine combo that would be small and light and make great power would be a mazda RX-7 rotary engine bolted to a VW bug transaxle (there is an adaptor to make the mazda engine bolt up). The RX-7 engine is not much bigger than an MC engine but makes more power than most MC engines.
There is of course the tried and true air cooled VW engine. Unless your kart is really tiny it should fit ok, and this engine has a tons of aftermarket support
