What is high milleage for a motorcycle?? HELP PLEASE

#1 Unread post by FrankyArseneau »

Hi

I am planning to buy a SUZUKI GSX-R 1000 2001 but it has 38000KM on it. But the bike is in MINT shape.

Could you give give me an idea on what could be considered high milleage for a sport bike like that??

Thanks

This is just my opinion, but I think you need to think about how it was treated more than the amount of miles put on a given bike. The way I've heard it said a well maintained bike will last forever, where a poorly treated bike will be junk with a few hundred miles on the odometer. If a bike was rarely ridden, for example, it can be in very poor condition due to inactivity - which will dry out seals and gaskets, and allow rust to form in places it can't on an active bike.

So my question would be - does the guy seem knowledgable of bikes. Does he have any records of work done on the bike. If you ask about how often the oil is changed, does it sound like he did it regularly, or do you stump him with this question. Its a gamble though. I wouldn't call this exeptionally high milage for a 2001 bike. I know if I owned a bike since 2001 it would have A LOT higher miles than that - but that's me.

also, you must find out if the bike has been raced.

racing miles take away a lot compared to normal highway and city miles AFAIK.

I bought a bike a month ago that had 40k miles on it since 85. A few things cosmetically and mechanically wrong with it but nothing major. Out the door with new tires for $200. I find that if you're going to take a risk on a high mileage bike it might as well have a nice price associated with it.

damn metric system. grew up and know standard like none other, but metric messes me up. I know mathematically its more logical but i just was never taught it so ive never bothered to learn it. No comments on the bike. I dont know enough about that sorta stuff just saw the metric number and was like wtf, why do i not know the metric system

And other than that what do you guys would think of this bike(GSX-R 1000 2001) ? Doe it offer good performance and possibilities( Like power wheelie or other stunting?)

If you got any storie about your GSX-R 1000..problem or anything i should no before buying a GIXXER...please let me know.

And if you could aslo tell me about the performance of this beast?. Top speed..acceleration time..etc?

Thanks
